Muriel Gallan is currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Photojournalism at Swansea Metropolitan University. A trained counsellor with a background in supporting vulnerable groups of people; she became interested in photography first as a hobby, then as a second career. Gallan’s work explores the rural community that moulded her own sense of place, she investigates issues of identity, locality and community as well as posing questions about the survival of a local, rural economy in a world of global transactions. Recent projects include Positive Images of Old Age commissioned by Singleton Hospital and 40th Anniversary; Gallan has exhibited at the Grand Theatre in Swansea and continues to work with community groups delivering photographic workshops.
